Psalm 77:11-12 — "I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember Your miracles of long ago. I will consider all Your works and meditate on all Your mighty deeds."
Life’s demands can cloud our memory of God's incredible works. Yet, remembering His faithfulness helps us regain perspective, deepens our gratitude, and renews our trust in Him. Reflecting on the moments when God touched our lives—the day we were saved, the peace and joy we felt, or the miracles we’ve witnessed—can restore our faith when we’re struggling to see His hand in the present.
Let us cultivate a practice of remembering His faithfulness as a powerful tool to anchor our hearts in gratitude and hope.
A Call to Remember
The Bible continually reminds us to recall God's works:
The Israelites and the Red Sea: God commanded Moses to write down and recite His miraculous deliverance so future generations could remember His power (Exodus 13:3-10).
The Cross and Communion: Jesus instituted the Lord’s Supper to help us remember His ultimate sacrifice (Luke 22:19).
Similarly, remembering God’s works in our personal lives—like the day we accepted Jesus as Lord—strengthens our faith. Do you remember the moment you first encountered Christ’s love? The peace, joy, and freedom that washed over you? Revisiting this memory rekindles our gratitude and reminds us of the transformational power of salvation.
The Day You Were Saved: A Moment Worth Remembering
For many believers, the day of salvation is a defining milestone—a moment when the weight of sin was lifted, and God’s grace flooded our hearts. This encounter with Jesus often brings indescribable peace and joy. Revisiting this moment can:
Renew your passion for your relationship with Christ.
Strengthen your faith when doubts arise.
Remind you of the depth of God’s love and His ongoing work in your life.
Reflect: When was the last time you meditated on the day God called you to Himself?
Tip: Write down your salvation story and reflect on how your life has changed since that day.
Practices for Remembering God’s Faithfulness
Here are some practices to intentionally remember and celebrate God’s faithfulness:
1. Revisit Your Salvation Story
Take time to reflect on the day you gave your life to Christ. What led you to that moment? How did you feel afterward? Gratitude for this life-changing experience will remind you of God’s power to transform lives.
Tip: Celebrate this day every year as a "spiritual birthday."
2. Keep a Journal of God’s Works
Document the prayers God has answered, the ways He’s provided for you, and the moments His presence was undeniable. Looking back on these records can uplift your spirit during difficult seasons.
Biblical Example: In the Old Testament, the Israelites built altars to mark where God had intervened, such as Joshua’s memorial stones at the Jordan River (Joshua 4:1-7).
Tip: Start a “Faithfulness Journal” and update it regularly.
3. Share Your Testimony
Sharing your story not only glorifies God but also strengthens your own faith. Testimonies are a powerful way to remember God’s goodness and inspire others to trust Him.
Biblical Example: In John 4:28-30, the Samaritan woman at the well immediately shared her encounter with Jesus, leading others to believe in Him.
Tip: Share one story of God’s faithfulness with a friend or in a small group this week.
4. Celebrate Spiritual Milestones
Mark important spiritual moments, such as when God answered a significant prayer or brought you through a trial. Celebrating these milestones helps you focus on His ongoing work in your life.
Tip: Write the dates of these moments in your Bible or calendar as reminders.
5. Create Visual Reminders
Set up tangible symbols of God’s faithfulness in your home, such as framed verses, photos, or keepsakes from pivotal moments. These visual markers serve as daily reminders of His goodness.
Biblical Example: Samuel set up an Ebenezer stone to commemorate God’s help (1 Samuel 7:12).
Tip: Choose one verse or keepsake to display prominently as a personal "Ebenezer."
Why Remembering Matters
In times of doubt or difficulty, remembering what God has done can renew our trust and restore our hope. It reminds us that the same God who parted the Red Sea and transformed our lives is still at work today.
Ask yourself:
What specific moments of God’s faithfulness can I revisit this week?
How can I make remembering His works a regular part of my spiritual life?
When we actively recall God’s goodness, we’re reminded that His promises are as true today as they were when we first believed.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
thank You for Your faithfulness in my life. I praise You for the day You saved me, for the joy and peace You gave me in that moment, and for the countless ways You’ve shown Your love since. Help me to cultivate a rhythm of remembrance, revisiting the moments when Your hand was so evident in my life. Teach me to document, celebrate, and share Your works so that I may never forget Your goodness. Fill my heart with gratitude and trust as I reflect on all You’ve done. Thank You for being my rock and my redeemer, always faithful and unchanging.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
