Day 34: Gratitude: A Pathway to Peace

1 Thessalonians 5:18 – “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Gratitude is a powerful spiritual practice that transforms how we view our lives and strengthens our relationship with God. In both joyful and challenging seasons, choosing to give thanks shifts our focus from what’s lacking to the abundance of God’s blessings. Gratitude draws us closer to God, reminding us of His goodness and faithfulness, even in difficult times.

Jesus Heals Ten Lepers (Luke 17:11-19)

In this story, ten men with leprosy were healed by Jesus, but only one—a Samaritan—returned to thank Him. Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine?” The man’s gratitude not only set him apart but also brought him closer to Jesus, who said, “Your faith has made you well.”

Lesson: Gratitude is more than just polite acknowledgment; it is an expression of faith that deepens our relationship with God and unlocks His peace in our hearts.

I remember a time when life felt overwhelming, and my words reflected the burdens I carried. I spoke more about what was wrong than what was right. During this time, I recalled a piece of advice my aunt gave me when I was about to get married:

"When you focus on bad things, you will see only bad things. But when you shift your focus to the good things, you will start to see the good too. Gratitude is a choice."

Her words stayed with me. In my relationship with God, I realized I was often consumed by worries and burdens. Slowly, I began to shift my focus. Instead of fixating on what wasn’t going well, I started to thank God for what I had.

This wasn’t an easy journey. Every day, I had to remind myself to find at least one thing to be thankful for—a prayer answered, a moment of peace, or even the breath in my lungs. As I cultivated a heart of gratitude, I noticed a change. My burdens felt lighter, and my perspective shifted. Gratitude didn’t erase my challenges, but it brought me closer to God and gave me peace in the midst of them.

 Insight:

1. Gratitude in All Circumstances:

Gratitude doesn’t mean ignoring hardships but recognizing God’s hand in every situation. It’s a declaration that He is still in control and working for our good.

2. Gratitude as Worship:

Giving thanks is a form of worship that honors God for who He is and for His countless blessings in our lives.

3. Gratitude Brings Peace:

When we practice gratitude, we open our hearts to God’s peace, which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:6-7).

Encouragement:

Even when life feels heavy, there is always something to be thankful for. Gratitude doesn’t deny pain but invites God’s presence into it. Start small—thank Him for the breath in your lungs, the people you love, and His unchanging love for you.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father,

I come to You with a heart of gratitude. Thank You for the blessings You’ve poured into my life, both seen and unseen. Help me to remain thankful in every season, trusting that You are always good and always faithful. Teach me to see Your hand at work, even in difficult circumstances. May my gratitude draw me closer to You and bring glory to Your name. Fill my heart with peace as I focus on Your goodness and grace.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Practical Application:

Start a gratitude journal. Write down three things you’re thankful for each day this week.

Reflect on a difficult time in your life and identify how God brought you through it. Thank Him for His faithfulness.

Share with a friend or family member something you’re grateful for and encourage them to do the same.

Engagement:

Question to Ponder: How has gratitude changed your perspective on life or strengthened your faith?

Challenge: This week, commit to thanking God daily for at least five things, even the small blessings, and notice how it impacts your heart and mind.

Day 4: Overcoming Depression through Faith

Psalm 34:18 — "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." Philippians 4:6-7 — "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." After the birth of my first child, I faced something I never expected: postpartum depression. It was my first child, and I had no idea what to expect. The physical exhaustion, the emotional rollercoaster, and the overwhelming responsibility left me feeling lost. Coming from a place where mental health struggles are rarely discussed, postpartum depression wasn’t something I could openly talk about. It’s considered taboo, something we sweep under the rug because it’s “ugly.” But I lived it. I felt isolated, even when surrounded by people. I felt misunderstood, like no one truly grasped what I was going through....

Day 5: Finding Hope in God During Hopeless Times

Losing a loved one, especially a parent, can feel like the world is caving in. For me, losing my father in 2014 was a moment that shattered my belief in hope. I prayed fervently, hoping for a miracle, but my father still passed away. I remember feeling so confused, asking God, "Why?" I was hurt, questioning how a loving Father could allow such pain. But looking back, I see that my struggle wasn’t about God’s absence—it was about my own misplaced hope. I had placed my trust in the miracle I wanted to happen, not in the faithfulness of God Himself. Hebrews 11:1 reminds us, "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." My hope was misplaced, but through this pain, God showed me that true hope isn’t found in the outcome we desire, but in trusting that He knows what’s best for us. There were years I lived with a lingering sense of doubt, still praying but not fully believing in His goodness. I kept wondering why my prayers weren’...
